Planets Project

~ This project is a peer-teaching opportunity, in which you will research an assigned planet and present what you learned to the class.

Project Expectations:
  1. You will research your assigned planet using reliable websites (nasa.gov) , books (provided), and literature, and include a works cited page when you turn in your work.
  2. You will provide a write-up (typed) or a PowerPoint presentation on your planet to your teacher the day you present to the class.
  3. You will teach your classmates about your planet, providing them with the key information detailed in the procedures in addition to anything else you find relevant and important.

Project Procedures:
  1. First, assemble your groups and determine your jobs as members of the team. We will do this in class at the end of the Solar System in 1000 meters lab.
  2. Second, work to complete your individual portions of the project (cite your sources as you work.) This will be done in class when we take our trip to the library.
  3. Rejoin your group and discuss the best method to teach the class about your content (could include a game, songs, a craft activity, etc.) We will spend one more class, in our regular classroom refining our ideas and practicing and perfecting our presentations.
  4. Prepare your presentation/lesson for the day it is to be given, and make sure your write-up/PPT is ready to be turned in to the teacher.

Project Grading
  1. Write-up/PowerPoint: 25%
  2. Presentation/Lesson: 50%
  3. Check points: 25%

Check Points
  • Start by organizing and working towards preparing and turning in Check point 1: basic list of content that is to be presented ( location, distances, size, composition, etc.), including a list of your resources.
  • Next, focus on working as a group to figure out the best way to teach your class about your subject, and turn in a lesson plan stating your organized methods for teaching the class for check point 2.
  • Practice your presentation with your group, so that you are prepared for the real thing. Practice and preparation will cut down on nervousness and anxiety.
